I repurposed an obi into a wall hanging. You can choose from three length options to fit your space. Please allow me one day to transform it into a tapestry.
An obi is a sash traditionally used when wearing a kimono. The material is silk. The fabric is medium-thick with a relatively smooth surface and minimal texture. This obi is designed to fold neatly, making it compact and easy to store.
The background of this obi features a flowing water pattern intertwined with the traditional Shippo (seven treasures) motif. On top of this, large peonies depicted within diamond shapes stand out as a striking design. The gradient shades of purple create a beautifully elegant color scheme.
The Shippo motif, a traditional Japanese geometric pattern, symbolizes eternal connection through its interlinked circles. It is considered an auspicious design and is widely used not only in kimono but also in furniture and tableware. The term "Shippo" originates from Buddhism and refers to the seven treasures: gold, silver, crystal, lapis lazuli, agate, coral, and shell.
Peonies, with their luxurious overlapping petals, are often called the "king of flowers" or the "flower of prosperity," representing wealth and nobility. This makes them a beloved symbol of elegance and high status.
