𝗔𝗕𝗢𝗨𝗧

I repurposed an obi into a table runner.

An obi is a sash traditionally used when wearing a kimono. This particular obi is made of silk, with a soft texture and a smooth surface without any noticeable bumps. The reverse side is plain black.

The design features a striking combination of vivid red and gold woven patterns against a black background. The motifs include chrysanthemums, paulownia, and bamboo leaves—designs cherished in Japan for centuries and often found in kimono patterns. Chrysanthemums, in particular, are widely used in Japanese motifs, including those on wagashi (traditional sweets) and furniture.

In classical literature, it is recorded that during the Heian period (794–1185 AD), September was called "Kikuzuki" (Chrysanthemum Month), and on September 9th, a festival called Chōyō no Sekku (Chrysanthemum Festival) was held to pray for longevity.

From the Heian to Kamakura periods (794–1333 AD), Emperor Go-Toba admired chrysanthemums and adopted them as his personal emblem. This tradition continued with subsequent emperors, leading to the establishment of the 16-petaled, 32-floreted chrysanthemum crest (Jūrokuyae Kikukamon) as the symbol of the Imperial Family.

I offer two sizes: 70 inches (180 cm), suitable for most standard tables, and a shorter runner version.

By draping the obi at your desired length over the black bamboo option, you can also use it as a wall hanging.

We USE RE-USED KIMONOS and OBIS

All the kimonos I handle are pre-owned. While the condition of items on the market varies, I carefully select only from stores where I personally inspect and touch each piece to ensure they are in good condition, with beautiful patterns and colors, and made of quality fabric.

After purchase, I sometimes discover minor stains, spots or scratches, but if the item is still perfectly wearable, these details are clearly noted in the description. Stains and spots may be due to age or wear, which is also documented. Please feel free to message me with any questions, or if you have specific requests for what you're looking for.
