An obi is a sash traditionally used when wearing a kimono.
The fabric is silk, showcasing an obi with vibrant orange and gold tones that stand out beautifully against the black background. The embroidery features thick threads, creating a slightly puffy texture on the surface (giving it a slightly bulky feel when folded). The obi is in excellent condition with no stains or damage.
The design includes motifs of bamboo trunks, fans, chrysanthemums, and paulownia. The diagonal bamboo trunk pattern, woven with gold threads, is particularly striking and exudes a strong presence. Bamboo, with its upright and slender growth toward the sky, has been a symbol of good fortune since ancient times, as Chinese folklore associates it with the phoenix feeding on its fruit.
Bamboo grows remarkably fast, reaching heights of 10 to 20 meters within two to three months, symbolizing vigor and vitality. Its ability to split cleanly along its grain when cut represents clarity and straightforwardness. Additionally, its evergreen nature during winter signifies resilience, longevity, and constancy.
This design carries multiple auspicious meanings, making it a truly meaningful and elegant pattern.
By draping the obi at your desired length over the black bamboo option, you can also use it as a wall hanging.
We USE RE-USED KIMONOS and OBIS
All the kimonos I handle are pre-owned. While the condition of items on the market varies, I carefully select only from stores where I personally inspect and touch each piece to ensure they are in good condition, with beautiful patterns and colors, and made of quality fabric.
After purchase, I sometimes discover minor stains, spots or scratches, but if the item is still perfectly wearable, these details are clearly noted in the description. Stains and spots may be due to age or wear, which is also documented. Please feel free to message me with any questions, or if you have specific requests for what you're looking for.
