Recently, Japanese tatami mats are popularly made from washi paper instead of traditional rush grass because of their superior durability. These mats are also crafted from washi with a special resin coating for enhanced resilience. The tatami used is the same as that found in traditional Japanese houses, purchased from a specialist tatami store. They are water-resistant and less prone to staining and fading.
Typically, polyester tape is used for the borders of tatami mats, but I use Japanese-made silk brocade (kinran) instead. Kinran is a luxurious and ornate fabric traditionally used for folk dolls in celebratory occasions, making it truly exquisite
You can use it as a table centerpiece, a base stand for various items, a stand for dolls, or as a display for your ornaments
