𝗔𝗕𝗢𝗨𝗧

This is a juban, a type of undergarment worn beneath a kimono. It acts as a protective layer between the kimono and the wearer, preventing the kimono from getting soiled. This particular juban is striking with its vibrant color and eye-catching pattern, even from a distance. The fabric is silk, specifically a type called chirimen crepe. Up close, you'll notice the surface of the fabric has a subtle, finely wrinkled texture. Chirimen is a highly valued fabric these days, prized for its unique texture. It's also wrinkle-resistant and relatively easy to care for. The long sleeves are a characteristic feature of older juban, and this piece is estimated to be approximately 60 years old.

If you look closely at the close-up photo of the neck area, you'll notice two cords hanging down. When wearing a kimono, these cords are used to pull the collar into a folded-over position, creating the desired neckline. Furthermore, to prevent sweat stains from reaching the juban collar, another piece of fabric is often lightly sewn on top as an additional protective layer.

・If the kimono gets stained, please gently pat the affected area with a towel wrung out in hot water.

・Ironing it on a medium-high setting. Garments may also be steamed in a moderate setting.

・Cover the table runner with a cloth when ironing.
